Press release from the issuing company

FREMONT, Calif., July 12, 2001 -- Lexar Media, Inc. (NSDQ: LEXR), a leading designer, developer and marketer of digital film and connectivity products for the digital photography market, today announced its addition to the Russell 2000 Index, a leading benchmark of small-cap stocks compiled by the Frank Russell Company, one of the world’s leading investment management and advisory firms. The Russell 2000 Index measures the performance of the 2,000 smallest companies in the Russell 3000 Index, which represents approximately 8% of the total market capitalization of the Russell 3000 Index. According to the Frank Russell Company, today more than $180 billion has been invested in portfolios that use Russell's U.S. indexes as a model. “Lexar Media’s inclusion in the Russell 2000 Index reflects the dynamic growth we have achieved since our inception, and we are very proud to have reached this goal in our brief history as a public company,” said John Reimer, President and Chief Executive Officer of Lexar Media.  “This milestone further reinforces our commitment to our shareholders and our dedication to maintaining our position as a technology innovator and a brand leader in the digital photography marketplace in 2001 and beyond.”
