Bowne Global Solutions Partners with Novell to Release GroupWise 6

Press release from the issuing company

PARSIPPANY, N.J.--July 10, 2001-- Bowne Global Solutions, a division of Bowne & Co, Inc. announced that it has provided localization services to enable the simultaneous release of Novell GroupWise 6 in 14 languages. This large project involved more than 4.5 million words and 9,000 hours of testing and engineering. Through global project coordination and its experience of other simultaneous language release projects, Bowne has helped Novell to quickly serve its customers around the world while accelerating its time to profit. "The ability to simultaneously release localized software products in multiple markets is vital for software developers seeking to increase international sales while maximizing control over costs.'' said Carl Glaeser, chief executive officer of Bowne Global Solutions. "The smooth completion of this large project for Novell is yet another example that Bowne has the in-depth global expertise to execute product localization for any software developer and for any size project.'' "The Novell-Bowne partnership for GroupWise has helped Novell establish new milestones in the localization and shipment of international product,'' said Fiona Agnew, vendor development manager, International Product Development, Novell, Ireland. "There is often an industry fear that one achieves simultaneous ship only at a cost to another critical variable in the process. The scalability of our outsourcing relationship with Bowne has enabled us to place a heavy focus on time to market while ensuring the quality of the final product and the cost effective way in which this was achieved.'' 24/7 Project Access A project of this size and complexity requires outstanding project management systems and procedures -- one of Bowne Global Solutions' specialties. To ensure the highest visibility on project status, Novell relied upon around-the-clock web access to ExtraGLOBAL for all project information. To ensure the quality and cost effectiveness of Novell's outsource testing, Bowne trained its staff on Novell technology in order to fully support the highly technical requirements for testing these products. ExtraGLOBAL is Bowne Global Solutions' extranet flagship product to facilitate effective project management during the development, testing and delivery of multi-language products to technology users and markets worldwide. "ExtraGLOBAL tells Novell 'what stage the project is currently at,''' said Tara Shortall, business development manager for Bowne Global Solutions and responsible for the Novell relationship. "Status reports display outstanding and urgent issues. Additional pages report what percentage of translations are complete, language quality results, the testing status of code and questions and answers which have been generated in the course of the project -- all of which significantly reduces telephone calls, email messages and the need to search through notes and archives to find information,'' said Shortall, "ExtraGLOBAL is designed to enable both our and Novell's staff tofocus their efforts on completing tasks which helps us to deliver the product on-time around the world.'' "Localization project management was traditionally viewed as a 'soft' service, an intangible item on the project budget sheet,'' said Agnew, "Having access to a centralized reporting facility via ExtraGlobal has proven that excellence in project management is not only achievable but also reproducible where technology structures and simplifies the project management interface.''
