Canon U.S.A. Launches the DR-3060 High-Speed Document Scanner

Press release from the issuing company

LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y.-July 5, 2001-- Canon U.S.A., Inc., a subsidiary of Canon, Inc. of Japan announced today the immediate availability of the new DR-3060 high-speed document scanner, a compact, robust desktop unit aimed at capturing even more of the rapidly growing market of departmental users. The DR-3060 is built upon the strengths of Canon's highly regarded DR-3000 series document scanners. Offering Simplex and Duplex scanning in black-and white and grayscale, and image quality of up to 300 dots-per-inch resolution, the DR-3060 includes features and functions typically found in larger, more expensive low-volume production machines. "With the introduction of the DR-3060, Canon now offers a full complement of compact, full-featured scanners built on proven technology,'' said Robert J. Stankard, director and general manager, Image Filing Systems Division at Canon U.S.A. "The DR-3080C, introduced last March, has been hugely successful and we believe this product, which offers all of the design advantages of the DR-3080C at a lower cost, will prove just as attractive to customers who want high-speed black and white and grayscale capabilities.'' "The DR-3060 should appeal to trucking and courier companies that want immediate access to invoices and are looking to distribute this information more quickly for faster bill processing,'' said Todd LeVeque, national sales manager for Cranel Imaging, a distributor of the DR-3060 scanner. "This product's portability, ease-of-use, ability to function in non-standard environments and short-term return on investment make it an attractive solution for companies looking to implement distributed scanning applications.'' Through the use of state-of-the-art feeding and image sensor technology, the DR-3060 provides fast, efficient scanning of up to 86 images-per-minute (of letter-sized paper in Duplex mode) and its high-speed chip design allows scanning of checks at up to 262 images-per-minute (in Duplex mode). The DR-3060 also includes a 100-sheet patented document feeding system that automatically adjusts for documents ranging from business cards to larger-than-legal size, simplifying continuous batch scanning of mixed documents. Skew Correction automatically straightens misaligned documents, further improving document throughput. Small enough to fit easily on any desktop, the DR-3060 simplifies every aspect of image capture. The pop-up virtual Scan Panel allows settings to be changed during scanning, without interrupting the scan job. Pre-Scan allows users to adjust brightness and contrast for a batch of documents dynamically, while previewing and fine-tuning just the first page. The Skip Blank Page feature automatically detects and deletes blank pages, streamlining the transmission of Simplex and Duplex documents in the same batch. The DR-3060 features two contact image sensors that read the front and back of a document in a single pass for fast, efficient two-sided scanning. Both ISIS and TWAIN drivers are included with the DR-3060 to ensure flexible connectivity and compatibility with a host of scanning software applications. All DR-3060 drivers work with Windows 95/98/2K/Me and Windows NT operating systems. The Canon DR-3060 arrives at the marketplace with the seal of approval from a number of software companies that have certified the scanner with their products. These companies include: LaserFiche Document Imaging; eCopy, Inc.; OTG Software, Inc.; Adobe Systems, Inc.; Cardiff Software, Inc.; Information Management Research, Inc.; Microsystems Technology, Inc.; Docuware Corporation; Alto Imaging Technologies, Inc.; Hyland Software, Inc. and TMSSequoia. The optional ED-500 Endorser imprints numbers, stamps and dates onto checks, share-drafts, and letter-sized documents. The imprint position is operator-adjustable and conforms to Federal Reserve Bank regulations for check endorsement. The Canon DR-3060 is available immediately through authorized Canon Image Filing Systems dealers and select distributors with a U.S. suggested retail price of $4,400.
