Kinkos & National Center for Missing & Exploited Children Join for KIDS DAY

Press release from the issuing company

VENTURA, Calif.- May 14, 2001 -Kinko's, Inc. branches around the Midwest have teamed up with the Kansas City Branch office of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) to host the second annual Kinko's Kid's Day, a child safety awareness event, on Saturday, May 19, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in select Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska and Oklahoma branches. Because the NCMEC reports that 2,200 children are reported missing each day in the United States, Kinko's Kid's Day aims to increase child protection awareness by providing information and tools to help prevent a missing child incident. "The awareness and prevention effort made possible by Kinko's Kid's Day is one way our branches care for our local communities - an important part of the Kinko's philosophy," said Tonya Tucker, Kid's Day chairperson and Kinko's branch manager, Independence, Mo. "Last year, Kinko's Kid's Day provided safety tips and tools to help safeguard more than 800 children. We are looking forward to this year being an even bigger success." During this one-day event, parents and guardians will receive free photographs of their children for their PhotoFacts ID booklets via Kinko's passport photo services. These booklets were developed by law enforcement officers to help guide parents and guardians in obtaining proper identification of their children before a missing incident occurs. Participants will also receive child safety literature supplied by the NCMEC, take part in exciting games and contests, visit with local police and fire departments, and receive demonstrations from representatives of local karate centers and dance studios. In addition, local restaurants will also be on-site to pass out lunch and snacks. The first Kinko's Kid's Day was held in 2000 and included 12 branches in Missouri and Kansas. This year, regional participation in the event has nearly tripled, with 29 branches in select areas in Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska and Oklahoma. Select Iowa and Nebraska locations are scheduled to participate in the fall. For further information on participating Kinko's branches, please call 1-800-2-Kinkos.
