ABM: Postal Service Governors Slam Periodicals

Press release from the issuing company

(05/16/01) The Claiming that they were forced by cost increases and the details of the earlier decision of the Postal Rate Commission to raise Periodicals rates more than they would have preferred, the Postal Service Board of Governors on Tuesday announced that on July 1, Periodicals postage rates will increase by another 2.6% (1.6% for in-county). Although rates for other classes were increased by about one percentage point less, the Governors explained that the requirement that all classes of mail contribute revenues that at least cover the costs "attributable" to that type of mail mandated the larger increase for Periodicals. ABM and the other members of the coalition that together fought the case before the Postal Rate Commission are considering whether there are grounds for an appeal to the courts.
