CHICAGO, May 9, 2001 - As part of its strategy to revolutionize communications effectiveness by creating the most integrated and flexible printing "platform of the future" for its customers, R.R. Donnelley & Sons Company [NYSE: DNY] is expanding its Glasgow, Ky., manufacturing facility. The $27 million expansion includes the creation of approximately 100 jobs by year-end; a 117,000-square-foot addition to the existing 648,000-square-foot facility; and associated equipment. "We are excited about this project, which is a tremendous vote of confidence by our company in the future of our print business, this plant and the community," said Marlin Harker, vice president and Glasgow division director. "We'll be able to increase production and serve our customers more effectively, which should provide added opportunities and job security for our employees." The expansion is related to the movement of work resulting from the company's announcement on April 30, 2001, that it will be closing its Des Moines, Iowa, facility by July 2002. Many of the positions will be filled by new employees, while some may be transfers from other company facilities. The anticipated positions include entry level, craft, technical, support, professional and management. The Glasgow facility, established in 1970, currently employs over 1200. Glynn Perry, senior vice president, of commercial print operations for R.R. Donnelley, said he was pleased to see the Glasgow division grow. "This expansion will strengthen our ability to meet our customers' expectations for production speed and quality," he said.
