Richards, as this year's keynote speaker at the Association of Legal Administrators' (ALA) 30th Annual Educational Conference and Exposition, hosted in Baltimore from May 22-25. "Ms. Richards stands for the idea that leadership is not only about getting the right job or winning the highest office, but also about using your power to empower others. Ann Richards was elected Governor of Texas in 1990, where she stressed education, public safety, economic development and efficiency. During her tenure, she authorized audits that saved the state $6 billion, held the line against new taxes and brought home a record of $17 billion in federal funds for Texas. Prior to being Governor, Richards was elected to the Travis County Commissioners Court, where she defeated a three-term incumbent for a seat, as well as won the position of State Treasurer, becoming the first woman elected to statewide office in Texas in 50 years. Today, Richards is a Senior Advisor with Verner Liipfert Bernhard McPherson & Hand, a Washington-based law firm with offices in Austin and Houston. In addition to the keynote address, Pitney Bowes Management Services will also host two important workshops for Legal Administrators. The first on Tuesday, May 22, is entitled, "Imaging", and will provide useful information on the use of networked and Internet imaging technology to provide practical, cost-effective, competitive-edge, digital document management. The "Records and Information Management" workshop on Thursday, May 24 will focus on solutions that automate these core processes and improve efficiency for legal firms.
