(NYSE:CAJ), and eCopy, Inc., the industry leader in electronic distribution of scanned documents, today announced the integration of Canon's imageRUNNER 5000 with eCopy's ScanStation hardware and related software offerings, including eCopy ShareScan and Desktop. The high-speed scanning solution is designed to replace traditional document distribution methods such as fax, mail, and overnight delivery services at a significantly reduced cost and time savings. The imageRUNNER 5000 is a 50 page-per-minute (ppm) digital copier offered in two configurations: an "S" standalone version that is completely upgradeable to include network print and scan functionality, and an "N" version that comes standard with network print and scan capability. Designed around a robust print engine capable of supporting 2400 x 600 dpi and 256 grayscale resolution, and up to 200,000 impressions per month, the imageRUNNER 5000 caters to large corporate departments by bringing the reliability and document handling feature set of systems targeting the Central Reprographic Department (CRD) to the general corporate office. Scanning availability on the imageRUNNER 5000, also announced today, converts the unit into a high-speed imaging device using Canon's Network Printer Kit, eCopy's ScanStation hardware, and eCopy ShareScan and Desktop software, as follows: eCopy ScanStation: The eCopy ScanStation is a dedicated personal computer, including a touch-screen display, that drives the imageRUNNER 5000 to perform document scanning. Users receive an immediate visual preview of all scanned pages prior to sending the document to its destination. eCopy ShareScan: eCopy ShareScan software resides on the eCopy ScanStation. Using ShareScan, users can scan and route documents to a number of destinations including their desktops, via e-mail, LAN Fax, or directly for printing. ShareScan seamlessly integrates with popular office applications for e-mail and network fax, and can utilize customer address books already in place at their network locations. The product is fully compatible with the Windows NT operating system, and a wide variety of network environments such as NT Domains, Novell NetWare, and Unix. eCopy Desktop: eCopy Desktop is a client application that can receive documents captured by ShareScan, and can perform annotations (stamp, highlight, add text, etc.), Optical Character Recognition (OCR), and routing via e-mail and fax. eCopy Desktop software links to the most popular document management applications to integrate scanned images into existing workflow. Documents such as contracts, invoices, sensitive legal documents, engineering documents, and artwork can easily be delivered with substantial savings in time and money compared to traditional fax, overnight courier, or interoffice mail services. Supporting resolution up to 600 x 600 dpi in scan mode, the Canon/eCopy solution contains capabilities critical to corporate customers, including support for secure Microsoft Windows NT login and authentication, direct access to Microsoft Exchange and Lotus Notes global e-mail address books, fax UI (User Interface) emulation, and streamlined network administration. eCopy ShareScan also contains an additional layer of network security as a configuration option within Microsoft Exchange environments, and is well-suited for banking, financial services, aerospace/defense, high tech, biotech, and others where security is crucial. ShareScan works with Microsoft Exchange and Lotus Notes to send scanned paper documents as e-mail attachments directly from a personal e-mail account. Because ShareScan performs a login and authentication, it does not send from a generic gateway address. Additionally, ShareScan's ability to directly access the global e-mail address book under Microsoft Exchange and Lotus Notes means that IT administrators need only administer the e-mail address list to also administer the ShareScan user list. ShareScan also supports .pdf file format and Internet Fax format, which is a standard approved by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). This group approves all standards used on the Internet.
