Second Year of 8% Revenue Increase for GATF in 2nd Year with PIA
Monday, April 16, 2001
Pittsburgh, Pa., April 12, 2001 In its second year of the consolidating membership with the Printing Industries of America (PIA), the Graphic Arts Technical Foundation (GATF) is reporting an eight percent increase in operating revenues over last year's operating revenues. In its newly published annual report, the Foundation reports this is the third year in a row that GATF achieved a similar operating revenue growth rate. Revenues grew by eight percent in 1999 and nine percent in 1998. Overall the financial position of the Foundation remained stable during the 2000 year, with growth in program revenue offsetting declines in quality control device and membership revenues. "In 1999, GATF had a significant planned loss in membership revenue due to consolidating the membership with PIA. We concentrated on absorbing this loss through improved efficiencies in administration and without reducing services," said George Ryan, GATF president. Effective January 1, 1999, printers who pay dues to their local PIA affiliate receive membership in three organizations: the local PIA affiliate, PIA national, and GATF. Thus GATF and PIA provide members an expanded range of benefits from one central source and ultimately a more cost-effective membership. "In 2000, GATF began transitioning to a product- and service-oriented organization and reducing our reliance on membership income with an aggressive introduction of new programs in 2001," Ryan continues. He refers to two new conferences, one on printing on plastic, film, and foil and the other on process controls, and the installation of a new full-size web press that will enhance training and research programs. "Our determination to be self-reliant on programs fueled our revenue growth." The Foundation reported revenue increases in three product lines: training, publications, and consulting. Income from research and testing held steady. Investments and donations of equipment, services, and supplies also increased during fiscal 2000.
