HP and Adobe Team to Transform Internet Printing and Publishing Processes

Press release from the issuing company

PALO ALTO and SAN JOSE, Calif., April 10, 2001 - Hewlett-Packard Company (NYSE:HWP) and Adobe Systems Incorporated (Nasdaq:ADBE) today announced an alliance to improve digital publishing by reducing inconsistencies and inefficiencies in Internet printing workflows. As part of this collaboration, HP has licensed the Adobe® Portable Document Format (PDF) libraries as a preferred file format for use in its products and services. "We look forward to working with Adobe to develop next-generation Internet printing models to enable customers to reliably print personalized documents from any HP device," said Vyomesh Joshi, president, HP Imaging and Printing Systems. "HP's endorsement of Adobe PDF is significant because customers will benefit from a standard Internet document format that spans the entire lifecycle of a document." "HP and Adobe have consistently provided leading products that enable customers to easily create, deliver and print high-quality documents," said Bruce Chizen, president and CEO, Adobe Systems. "It's exciting to be working together on our shared vision to help printing and publishing professionals develop Internet printing workflows that deliver consistent, predictable results every time." Printing and imaging devices, such as HP Photosmart cameras, scanners and all-in-one devices, will be among the first HP products to incorporate the Adobe PDF technology. HP devices incorporating the Adobe PDF technology are expected to be available in spring 2002. HP also announced today that it has joined Adobe as a partner member of CIP4, an international body promoting the computer-based integration of all processes of the graphic arts industry. The current high-profile work of CIP4 is the evolution of the Job Definition Format (JDF) specification, which allows users to track a job from start to finish across practically any system already in place.
