Wednesday, April 04, 2001
SAN FRANCISCO, April 3, 2001- The 2001 Publishing & Communications Papers Conference, Sept. 10-12 at the Hilton Bonaventure in Montreal, will offer a different format from previous years, but will present the same valuable content that has made it a leading global forum for industry executives to examine the trends and analysis of groundwood, free-sheet and newsprint markets since 1980. This year's Conference features presentations along grade lines that include interactive panels of customers/buyers and producers/merchants. Special emphasis will be placed on an issue of particular importance to each grade or of unique concern to the North American printing papers market. Panels scheduled thus far include: Coated free-sheet: examination of the impacts of world capacity and digital printing. Newsprint/uncoated groundwood: discussions of new strategies for newsprint production and consumption, as well as producers' new attitudes toward customers. Uncoated free-sheet/woodfree papers: an overview of rising production costs and their impact on margins, as well as the implications of growth of "big boxes" on distribution. Other program highlights include a conference-opening "World Tour" that will present comprehensive European, North American and Asian market overviews and address such important topics as the impact of global supply/demand, emerging markets, consolidations, currency exchange rates, and economic forecasts. The conference will close with a special e-business session featuring an overview of industry web sites and portals, electronic competition, and a discussion of the potential benefits and pitfalls encountered during the development of e-commerce initiatives. A cyber cafe offering demonstrations of e-business products and services will be open through the Conference.
