Coloropen for Mac OS X

Press release from the issuing company

CeBIT 2001 - Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg), the leading solution provider for the entire print industry, will be presenting new versions of the Coloropen products Scanopen, Viewopen and Printopen for Apple’s new Mac OS X operating system which will be unveiled on March 24, 2001. This will give users a standardized user interface for both Mac and PC software together with further improved profiles, optimized online help and documentation. New design supports ease of use Heidelberg’s Color Management products are targeted in particular at printshops, repro houses and agencies. In other words, at users from the entire graphic arts industry who attach particular importance to color fidelity. Mac users too will now benefit from the new user interface, since the Java-based programming means that there is no longer any difference between the Mac and Windows versions. The interface has the new look-and-feel of all Heidelberg programs and has already been unveiled on the PC at drupa. The simple, clearly arranged controls are easy to use and are made self-explanatory by means of tool tips. For the first time on the Macintosh they have been standardized for all three programs. "We are very proud to be the first company for the new Mac OS X system. The excellent collaboration between Heidelberg and Apple has reached a new milestone since the development of ColorSync", states Thomas Doliwa, Head of Heidelberg Prepress, in introducing the new versions. "The new version and the many possibilities which Mac OS X offers means that Mac users too will now be able to enjoy ultra-simple operation," adds Product Manager Frank Kupke. "There are now standardized license keys for both versions — a fact which greatly benefits customers with hybrid system environments". An optimized online help tool provides a reliable base for quickly resolving problems and provides extensive and improved documentation in five languages for quickly resolving any questions users may encounter. The complete program flow of the online tools benefits greatly from the new Java 1.3 version. The new version uses the "webcross" display to simplify comparisons and color space displays. This feature is ideal for newcomers to color and for training purposes, since the differences in the sizes of the color spaces of individual units such as monitors, printers and scanners can now be seen clearly, so that even newcomers will gain a clearer understanding of the issues involved in color management. Extended functionality The decisive phase of color management is the press or output stage, since this will reveal just how well the workflow has been coordinated. If the result does not meet expectations or correspond to the original, the error will generally lie in the upstream processes. Printopen is a professional tool which can deliver outstanding quality thanks to proof control, profile editing and profile calculation features. The latest version of Printopen has a number of enhanced functions. These include optimization of gamut mapping, profile calculation and white point simulation. Measuring instruments supported are addressed faster, thereby improving the entire measuring procedure. Coloropen 4.0.5 is expected to be available for Mac and PC by the middle of June. The latest version of the Coloropen products has seen Heidelberg set new standards in the field of color management for the Mac OS X operating system. But there are also a number of optimized functions for the PC.
