Tuesday, March 20, 2001

Press release from the issuing company

NEW YORK, March 19, 2001 -- The Premedia Technologies unit of R.R. Donnelley & Sons Company (NYSE: DNY), and ScreamingMedia Inc. (NASDAQ: SCRM), a leading global provider of content solutions, have formed a partnership that offers magazine publishers the opportunity to transform print content into electronic content and to distribute it through private or general syndication channels to meet subscribers needs for specific information. The value to publishers of magazines and trade journals is unparalleled. Using Premedia Technologies' services, publishers can convert content from application files such as Quark into formats like XML or HTML. Publishers can then utilize ScreamingMedia's Syndication!Connect services and its technology platform to parse, normalize, categorize and integrate it directly into the platforms of their subscribers, or syndicate their content through ScreamingMedia's vast global digital content network. "Our publishing customers are the real winners in this partnership," said Mary Lee Schneider, president of Premedia Technologies for R.R. Donnelley. "By partnering with ScreamingMedia, they can develop their own private syndication networks directly with subscribers or have immediate access to all the web and wireless clients in ScreamingMedia's network. We provide the means to convert and store their content, and ScreamingMedia provides the filtering and integration technology. As a result, publishers effortlessly gain opportunities to extend the value of their content while at the same time developing new revenue streams." "ScreamingMedia's core competency is utilizing our tried and proven technology platform to filter, process, deliver and integrate fresh, targeted content into web and wireless platforms, whether it is within our own digital content network or powering private syndication networks for major media companies," said Kevin Clark, chief executive officer of ScreamingMedia.
