EFI Develops Controller for Toshibas New e-STUDIO Black and White Products

Press release from the issuing company

FOSTER CITY and IRVINE, CA — March 12, 2001 — Electronics for Imaging (NASDAQ: EFII), the world leader in enabling networked printing solutions, announced that EFI’s Fiery controller architecture will be used in Toshiba’s new e-STUDIO products. The powerful Fiery architecture brings unprecedented print speed and seamless network integration to Toshiba’s new line of black-and-white multi-function printer/copiers for small and mid-size work groups. The two companies have previously collaborated on technology for Toshiba’s color products but this is their first effort to bring best of breed products to the black and white market. The Fiery X3/e architecture on which Toshiba’s GA -1040 controller is based produces high quality black-and-white printing at high speed. It utilizes an Intel Celeron 366 Mhz processor and includes an option to run Adobe PostScript 3. Based on EFI’s Netwise™ 2, the second generation of Fiery networking architecture, the GA-1040 offers seamless connectivity and flexible network management. It also includes workflow management utilities for enhanced ease-of-use and job management. “We want to offer our customers the best solutions for black and white printing and that means including EFI’s Fiery technology as an integral feature,” said Mark Matthews, Vice President of Marketing, Toshiba Electronic Imaging Division. “ Our e-STUDIO copiers with Fiery controllers provide significant advances in printing efficiency for the mid-sized market.” “We are proud that EFI’s Fiery technology has been selected to be an integral part of the Toshiba’s mid-range e-STUDIO black and white copier,” said Fred Rosenzweig, EFI President. “The new e-STUDIO products offer the corporate marketplace a powerful new multi-function product.”
