Bowne Promotes from within for Chief Financial Officer Position

New York, March 9, 2001 Bowne & Co. Inc. (NYSE: BNE), the world’s largest financial printer and a leader in document and information management, has named C. Cody Colquitt as its Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. The announcement was made following a meeting of its Board of Directors. Mr. Colquitt assumes the position immediately. As CFO, his responsibilities include corporate finance, financial reporting and accounting, treasury, tax and investor relations. Mr. Colquitt will serve as a member of Bowne’s senior management team and will report to the Office of the Chairman. He fills the vacancy created by the departure of Bowne’s former CFO, who resigned from the company in August. Robert M. Johnson, chairman and CEO said, "Since transferring to New York from Bowne of Dallas two years ago, Cody has been a key member of our corporate finance staff. Under his leadership as Corporate Controller, we have built a sophisticated financial and operational reporting structure that operates across many distinct businesses on a global basis. His understanding of our financial printing business in particular, developed during his tenure with one of our key operating units, is proving invaluable as we focus on operational issues and future challenges." Prior to joining Bowne, Mr. Colquitt was controller of Sammons Communications, where he helped manage all of the financial matters of this multiple cable television system operator. Sammons, a $400 million business operated approximately 60 cable systems in 18 states.
