Roll Showcases In-Line Book Making Solutions at OnDemand

Press release from the issuing company

New York, NY (February 28, 2001) - Roll Systems is showcasing updated book solutions for the commercial printing market at the annual On Demand Strategy Conference and Exposition this week in New York City. Industry exclusives from Roll include 24-page folded signatures produced in-line on continuous form printers for making 6x9 inch books, two-up book blocks from cut sheet printers, and four-side full-bleed trimming. Demonstrations in the Roll Booth #1855 include: the BookMaster CS for DocuTech users; a Roll-to-Sheet System supporting three-up signature folding on continuous printers; a Color Roll-to-Cutter/Trimmer/Stacker (CTS) for Xeikon-based color printers; and a TwoUp System with Dual Hole Punch for supporting in-line hole punching of two-across output for continuous web printers. According to Roll Vice President of Marketing, Jules Fried, "On-demand digital printing is now at the stage where even minor technological advances can open up entirely new markets. The On Demand conference is a good showcase for Roll to demonstrate the impact our products can have on a commercial printer's ability to grow their digital business." On the show floor, Roll's BookMaster CS, a combination of Roll's proven DocuSheeter™ roll-feed system coupled with an in-line slitter/stacker, is feeding a Xerox DocuTech 6180 and slitting two-up print in-line into individual 6x9 inch book blocks. Output is immediately available and ready for binding. The BookMaster CS makes DocuTech more cost effective for two-up book work The Roll-to-Sheet System, featuring the quick change unwinder and precision cutter and printing on an Océ DemandStream 8090, is producing 24-page folded signatures in the Roll booth. This end-to-end solution features in-line folding on a Mathias Bauerle CAS 52/4/4 folder distributed by GBR in the US. The Color CTS System is delivering full-bleed output (eliminating off-line trimming) with high capacity stacking. The Two Up System with Dual Hole Punch punches, cuts, slits and merges two-across output from pinless webs into a single collated stream, eliminating off-line drilling and handling.
