Press release from the issuing company

White Stone, VA, February 2001 Top technologists and strategic planners from leading printing, premedia and publishing companies around the world will meet in Orlando, Florida, on June 18-20, 2001, at the 2001 R&E Council/GCA Digital Smart Factory Conference.  The meeting, cosponsored by the R&E Council and the Graphic Communications Association, will be held at the Hyatt Regency Orlando International Airport.  The meeting will feature white papers dealing with technology implementation, as well as case studies of printing companies which are moving toward the Digital Smart Factory. The 2001 Digital Smart Factory Conference is the premier forum for exploring the efficiencies possible in automating the print manufacturing process.  The meeting will be chaired by Orlando Boleda, vice president of product development at Hart Graphics, and Charles Gehman, chief technology officer for Printable.com.  In announcing the conference program, R&E Council managing director Ronald L. Mihills commented: Technology currently available permits printers and publishers to realize significant efficiencies in print production.  But implementing that technology can be difficult and must be done differently by each individual company.  The 2001 Digital Smart Factory Conference will bring together the foremost thinkers in the field for a thorough discussion of the issues that will determine how printing may be done in the 21st century.  The specialized program, with speakers from every corner of the industry, is sure to benefit everyone concerned with the future of printing.  Printers, especially, should be represented at the conference as a means of preparing for the future.   Kimberly Rich, Spectrum project manager at the Graphic Communications Association, in discussing GCA participation, added: The Digital Smart Factory Conference is a prime example of how printing industry trade associations can work together for the benefit of the entire industry.  We are pleased to recommend the conference to GCA member companies as well as other firms interested in the concept. Registration information for the 2001 Digital Smart Factory Conference is available at www.recouncil.org, or by calling the R&E Council at 804-436-9922 or the GCA at 703-519-8167.
