DocuTech Book Factory Boosts Production of GATF Educational Textbooks

Press release from the issuing company

Pittsburgh, Pa., January 31, 2001 — Supporting the Graphic Arts Technical Foundation’s (GATF) commitment to education and training for the graphic arts industry, Xerox Corporation and C.P. Bourg, Inc. installed the DocuTech Book Factory at the Foundation’s training facility. To be used with the Foundation’s DocuTech 6180 Publisher, the Xerox/Bourg Book Factory will be used as GATF’s primary solution for digitally produced perfect-bound books. The Xerox/Bourg Book Factory will primarily be used in producing GATF educational publications and conference booklets. "As printing technology becomes more sophisticated, printing problems become more difficult and costly to solve. Textbooks are one of the most affordable means for smaller printers to assess technical information and assistance," said George Ryan, GATF president, who reported selling over 56,000 GATFPress and PIA textbooks in 2000. "Xerox and Bourg’s installment of the Xerox/Bourg Book Factory will help us produce cost-efficient, high-quality publications to educate the graphic arts industry." The solution features the DocuTech 2000 series 6155 or 6180 digital printer teamed with the C.P. Bourg Perforate, Rotate and Fold Module and C.P. Bourg BBF 2005 Perfect Binder and Bourg’s automated BDFX Bookletmaker. The DocuTech 6155 and 6180 Book Factory boasts output speeds up to 310 and 360 book pages-per-minute (ppm), respectively, due to the solution’s exclusive technology of automatic two-up, two-sided printing. In addition to being used for publishing, The Xerox/Bourg Book Factory will enhance GATF’s training capability of digital publishing. Currently $25 million worth of equipment is housed within GATF’s prepress, press, and laboratories to ensure workshop attendees benefit from state-of-the-art technology for printing, packaging, and publishing industries.
