OAKDALE, Minn. (February 20, 2001) — Imation Corp. (NYSE:IMN) today announced the availability of the new Imation MatchprintTM Plus Proofing System, that gives Matchprint analog proofing users the ability to proof almost any custom or special color. The Matchprint Plus system allows customers to mix and coat special color sheets to make proofs that better simulate actual inks used in print jobs. The Matchprint Plus system consists of a set of 15 aqueous inks, an automated coater, and a receiver sheet. It utilizes an Imation Model 447 Laminator and an Imation Model 2430 Proofing Processor. Using the customized Matchprint Plus Color Formula Guide, the customer weighs each ink on the supplied electronic scale to obtain a consistent color blend. A receiver sheet is laminated to a Matchprint base, the new ink is applied and dried, and the new color sheet is then exposed and processed, ready for additional Matchprint Plus colors and/or process colors to complete the proof. "A key feature of the Matchprint Plus System is the order of the workflow," explained Pat Galbraith, product manager. "Because our system uses a ‘laminate first’ workflow versus the ‘laminate last’ workflow of competitive systems, Matchprint Plus proofs will have better fit and register—even on the maximum size 30 x 42 inch proofs. This sequence eliminates the stretch or slip that is common with competitive systems that laminate after exposure and processing." Immediately available from all authorized full-line graphic arts distributors, the Matchprint Plus system can be used for any size Matchprint proof. The Matchprint Plus system is compatible with other Matchprint proofing products, including any negative Matchprint color set, Matchprint base, or it can be transferred onto final stock using the Matchprint transfer system. It fits easily into most proofing departments, requiring only 4 by 6 feet of floor space versus the larger space required by competitive large-format coaters.
