ENCAD Launches New Eight-Color Printer and Inks at PMA

Press release from the issuing company

SAN DIEGO, February 9, 2001 — ENCAD, Inc. (Nasdaq NM: ENCD) will thrill over 30,000 enthusiastic attendees and 800 exhibitors at the 77th annual Photo Marketing Association convention and trade show in Orlando, FL, February 11-14.  Continuous demonstrations at the booth will highlight the innovative NovaJet 850 wide-format printer running the company’s new Ultra-Fi and Octachrome ink configurations.  Employing these new inks provides the dual benefit of improved smoothness and expanded color gamut. “We have received a tremendously positive response from our customers concerning our new eight-head NJ 850 technology and the Ultra-Fi and Octachrome ink combinations,” said Terry Vandewarker, President & CEO of ENCAD.  “We expect this new team of products to give our users the ability to obtain breathtaking, high-resolution images that produce optimal tonal gradations when running our light and medium dilutions or orange and green colors.  Additionally, superior production-level print speeds can be obtained when running our double CMYK combinations.  This is a flexibility that goes well beyond the capabilities of any four- or six-color printers in the market today.” NovaJet 850 Wide-Format Printer The NovaJet 850 is available in model widths of 42” and 60”.  Its innovative eight-head print technology allows users to either employ all eight colors simultaneously, print with six-color ink configurations, or utilize a double mixture of CMYK, thus producing superior production-level print speeds.  Additional flexibility is inherent in the NovaJet 850 with its ability to incorporate both indoor dye-based inks and outdoor pigment-based inks concurrently utilizing all twelve print lines and switching back and forth between the inks, as the printing application requires. The NovaJet 850 printing technology delivers eight print heads, MicroBurst™ technology, a Dynamic Thermal Drying System™, (DTD™), 100base-T connection, and an automatic take-up and paper sensor. Ultra-Fi and Octachrome Inks The NovaJet 850 offers users the ability to print in four, six, or eight-color modes using any of ENCAD’s high-performance inks: GS PLUS™ (Graphic Standard PLUS™), a high-gamut indoor dye-based ink; GX™ (Graphic Extend™), a lightfast indoor dye-based ink; and GO™ (Graphic Outdoor™), an indoor/outdoor pigment-based ink.  Ultra-Fi eight-color ink configurations, for GS PLUS and GX, include two levels of cyan and magenta dilutions.  They deliver dramatically improved smoothness within tonal gradations.  Octachrome eight-color ink configurations, which include orange and green as well as dilutions of magenta and cyan, are available for GX and GO.
