Reynolds Places New VP of Data Services and Chief Privacy Officer

Press release from the issuing company

January 29, 2001, Scott Schafer, senior vice president of Info-Structure Services, announced today that Michael McNeil has been named vice president of data services and chief privacy officer. Previously director of strategic marketing, McNeil will lead this new unit that will focus on data access, security and privacy internally and externally from Reynolds and throughout the automotive value net. In this new role, McNeil will report to Schafer. "Data access, privacy and security are explosive issues," Schafer said. "In particular the automotive industry today lacks a cohesive strategy. There are few standards or common practices. Reynolds is in a position to propel our leadership position in the industry by championing strategies that will serve to not only protect and secure data, but improve the efficiencies of the flow of data to the benefit of car companies, auto retailers and consumers. We also believe there are important new services that we can bring forward to our industry. Michael’s blend of skills and experience in both consumer and IT marketing, as well as his understanding of Reynolds’ solution capabilities related to our customers, makes him a great choice for this position." Current studies indicate that privacy and security issues surrounding data is highly contested and reported as a key inhibitor of e-business adoption and growth in the automotive industry. "Extensive research indicates that consumers want to be marketed to in a way that is anticipated, and in a personal and relevant way… not phone calls at dinner selling you something you don’t need or want," McNeil said. "They want assurance that their data is used ethically, to benefit them without exploiting them."
