Merrill Invests in Storage and Communications Technology

PAUL, MN — January 25, 2001 — Merrill Corporation (www.merrillcorp.com), a global diversified communications and document services provider, announced today that its Document Management Services (DMS) business has completed a series of technology investments that it believes will become the new legal industry standard for highly reliable data storage and secure network connections. The new data storage and communications network facility is located at Merrill headquarters in St. Paul, Minn. and will support all of Merrill's UR-Law clients. UR-Law is a leader in the litigation, database management software market, benefiting from more than eight years of continual product development. UR-Law is available to clients as either an Internet browser-based repository (ur-law.com) or as an Intranet browser-based application for on-site use. Data Storage According to Al McNee, president, Document Management Services, the new database storage capability provides Merrill clients with unprecedented, secure, reliable and high performance data storage and data access. "Merrill clients that use UR-Law will profit from a network that is a generation ahead of other data repository competitors in the legal market," McNee said. Merrill has assembled three, best-in-class manufacturers to create their new storage facility: EMC for their Enterprise Storage Network System, Sun Microsystems for their Sun Enterprise* servers and Oracle database software. "Our clients can have complete confidence in our ability to safeguard their data while enjoying a new standard of performance and productivity within the legal industry," McNee said.
