Thursday, January 18, 2001
MacWorld Expo, San Francisco--Shira, the leading provider of online prepress and native PDF workflow solutions, and Miramar Systems Inc. today announced a licensing agreement that will allow Shira to integrate Miramar’s PC MACLAN’s AppleTalk Technology for Macintosh connectivity into Shira’s RIPing and proofing solutions-Shira RIP, ShiraProofPro and Shira MediaSaver. This multi-platform connectivity will be beneficial to users of such technology as the Kodak Approval/XP/XP4 digital halftone proofing devices, which feature Shira’s MediaSaver technology. Shira’s new cross-platform connectivity capabilities will be premiered at MacWorld Expo, January 9–11, Miramar booth #1643. With the addition of Miramar’s PC MACLAN technology, Shira users will be able to establish PCs as full peers on AppleTalk networks, allowing file and print sharing through a LAN, the Internet and remote access. This new, multi-platform capability further distinguishes Shira’s RIPing and proofing solutions, delivering truly integrated workflows. Miramar’s platform-bridging technology will be featured in Shira RIP, a RIP package that renders TIFF/IT-P1 files from PostScript and PDF files for use as “digital films” in a digital prepress workflow; ShiraProof Pro, a color RIP for proofing devices; and Shira MediaSaver, a unique product in the market that aggregates PostScript and PDF files for proofing several images per page, conserving media in CTP and halftone proofing devices. We are pleased to offer this licensing agreement for Shira users. With PC MACLAN, we’re enabling users to leverage our solutions regardless of their computing platform,” states Yossi Givati, VP Business Development for Shira Computers Ltd. “Having our products serve as virtual printer in the AppleTalk environment is extremely important to our customers and Miramar’s unique solution positions our products in the top line of prepress solutions for the graphic arts industry,” he adds. “With our AppleTalk technology, Shira users can make the most of their workflow systems, regardless of the platform. Our technology offers unprecedented freedom for PC users,” notes Harry Rabin, Miramar Systems VP, IS/Quality Assurance/Technical Support, and co-founder.
