GPO Distribution Centers Deliver More than Three Million Publications During First Week of Emergency Status

Press release from the issuing company

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Government Publishing Office (GPO) teams at the warehouses in Pueblo, CO and Laurel, MD distributed more than three million Federal publications during the agency’s first week of being on emergency status due to the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19). The distributions included publications for the U.S. Census Bureau, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), and many other Federal agencies.

“GPO is open for business during the pandemic, and the agency has changed its posture to ensure the health and safety of our team,” said GPO Director Hugh Nathanial Halpern. “I am proud of our team for continuing to provide exceptional customer service and meeting the needs of Congress, the White House, and Federal agencies during these challenging times.”

Distributions for the U.S. Census Bureau made up about half of all distributions during the week of March 16 – March 20, 2020. GPO is distributing 2020 Census promotional materials as part of the Census Bureau’s efforts to encourage citizens to participate in the census.

In addition to distributing Federal agency publications, GPO continues to produce the Congressional Record, Congressional calendars, and other legislative documents when Congress is in session. The team is also producing the Federal Register every day with the latest executive orders and proposed rules. GPO print procurement staff are working with the Treasury Department, the U.S. Census Bureau, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other agencies to ensure Americans get all the information they need during this pandemic.

GPO is the Federal Government’s official, digital, secure resource for producing, procuring, cataloging, indexing, authenticating, disseminating, and preserving the official information products of the U.S. Government. The GPO is responsible for the production and distribution of information products and services for all three branches of the Federal Government, including U.S. passports for the Department of State as well as the official publications of Congress, the White House, and other Federal agencies in digital and print formats. GPO provides for permanent public access to Federal Government information at no charge through www.govinfo.gov and partnerships with approximately 1,100 libraries nationwide participating in the Federal Depository Library Program.
