Yes, Virginia, many of us still receive printed Christmas cards, from our insurance agents if no one else. What to do with them once the holiday season has ended? Well, in the UK (via Two Sides UK), grocery chain Sainsbury’s has launched Christmas card recycling stations in 500 of its stores. Until January 15, customers can bring in their old Christmas cards as well as other holiday detritus like used wrapping paper, aluminum foil, cardboard, etc., and they will recycle it. The company will also make a donation to the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) based on the volume of material accumulated. There is also no shortage of ideas for DIY Christmas card recycling, based on your level of craft-iness. It is, however, rather tacky to recycle Christmas cards by saving them for next year, crossing out one’s own name, and sending them on to someone else.
