WhatTheyThink’s Going Green has joined forces with Two Sides to help address the “perceptions” that paper destroys forests, that electronic media are “greener” than print and paper, and that recycling is the solution to all environmental ills. Via Digital Book World, a new study found that “nearly three-quarters of iPad owners who read e-books to their children prefer reading print books with them to ebooks.” Why Should You Care? And print, of course, has many advantages over electronic media, including permanence, reliability, and, especially, ease of use. Or perhaps. (I am reminded of this wonderful story from a few years back about a 13-year-old who needed a week to figure out how a Sony Walkman worked. “It took me three days to figure out that there was another side to the tape.” Priceless.) Could that happen with printed books? One never knows... For more Two Sides facts see http://www.twosides.us/mythsandfacts.
