At drupa 2012, Benny Landa introduced a new inkjet printing technology to excited crowds with great fanfare. Now five years later, the first Landa Press is installed and there are two more right behind it, as well as a waiting list. David Zwang was one of about 100 people, mostly potential customers, from around the globe to visit with Landa at his facilities in Rehovot, Israel, to get a closer look at the man, his vision, and the machines.

There were about 100 people in attendance, and most of them had their own reactions and feelings, dependent on their individual requirements. Although, as I mentioned, I could characterize most of them as not if but when in terms of purchasing.

My quastion is about model W10, web fed designed for flexible packaging - what kind are inks for this machine, maybe inks are not on water base here?

All of the inks for the Landa presses are water based at this point

Any sense of when the Automatic Quality Management system will be running and fully capable?

It is running now in the labs. It will be installed and running in the next 2 beta installations. Fully capable is a hard one to answer. The system will continue to be refined as they have more running data to work with.

Did you see sequential runs of different images being printed? One of the challenges of the technology must be avoidance of 'ghosting' caused by ink remaining on the transfer belt between images - any comment on this?

I didn't see any latency effects as you can on some digital technologies
