Right on. "Perfection is the enemy of the good." Also, I certainly agree that software that makes the process of order entry more efficient is very valuable. However, the "estimating" aspects of it may be problematic. If estimating drives prices and is "cost" based, it will tend to drive away business that would make a contribution to overhead but when an order is won leaving money on the table. Pricing needs to be built around the value to the customer and the seller's competitive positioning neither of which is related to cost as conventionally measured.

Like trying to find the perfect house, the perfect car, the perfect space for your shop. Perfection, especially in software, doesn’t exist and trying to find it leads to endless research leaving a shop, desperately needing grow and improve their service, in limbo. Sadly, we’ve seen this too many times. Those that succeed, manage and navigate the roadblocks.

Great article Jennifer.

Corry,

It is so frustrating to watch and all attempts at getting them to move look like you're making excuses for not having the feature.
