The UK's Royal Mail continues to support the use of mail in promotion with its report about “myths of engagement.” Though the UK market is different than that of the US, I've found these reports to be very thought provoking.

Happy birthday to French economist Frederic Bastiat! You're 215 years old! Bastiat is great reading, and destroys many economic myths that persist to this day. But appreciation of him is slowly growing.

I was fascinated by these podcasts about the history of paper as a revolutionary invention. The book is The Paper Trail: An Unexpected History of a Revolutionary Invention by Alexander Monro. Part 1 and part 2 of the Monro interview with John Batchelor are available for online listening or download.

My “favoritist” blog, Dead Tree Edition, profiled one of my made-up words, “denialsizing.” These words are often called “sniglets,” words that aren't in the dictionary but should be. Comedian Rich Hall is credited with the name, and it was part of HBO's popular series Not Necessarily the News in the 1980s. A sample spot is at YouTube.
