Unisource Worldwide announced yesterday that its transportation fleet has met the requirements to be become part of the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) SmartWay Transport Partnership. The SmartWay Transport Partnership is a program by which shippers and freight carriers commit to tracking fuel consumption, benchmarking their progress on emissions and fuel consumption, and committing to annual improvements.
“Over the past few years Unisource has made a significant investment to improve the energy efficiency and reduce emissions throughout our transportation fleet,” said Steve Petrazio, Vice President – Corporate Real Estate and Fleet Management for Unisource Worldwide.  “We are pleased to become a part of the EPA SmartWay Transport Partnership and look forward to continuing to be an industry leader in implementing strategies and best practices to improve our supply chain operations.”
Unisource has approximately 80 distribution facilities spread across North America and operates a fleet of more than 400 vehicles. Previously, the company had implemented its own proprietary transportation system called Roadnet to optimize delivery routing and improve fuel efficiency throughout its fleet.
