If you happen to have been in Singapore recently—and who of us hasn’t?—you may have caught sight of a new wide-format backlit film that can be used for vehicle graphics. Called eLumiNEX, it has been given a shakedown cruise on a bus.

The innovation is the result of a collaboration between SMRT Media, the Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology (SIMTech), which comes under the Agency for Science, Technology and Research A*Star, A*Star's technology transfer arm ETPL and local SME large-format printer Film Screen.

The graphic consisted of a 12-meter illuminated canvas displaying an ad for Huawei’s latest mobile phone, the Honor 4X. People who spot the bus, snap a photo of it, and post it on Facebook can enter a contest to win a new Honor 4X phone.

Vehicle graphics are one of the hottest growing specialty graphics areas and I would imagine that we are going to see a lot more innovation there, particularly when it comes to backlit and illuminated graphics. Can dynamic digital vehicle graphics be far behind?
