Books are Not Dead… The Digital Print Opportunity Abounds!

There is a new value chain for book publishing. Instead of trying to guess about print runs (especially in the face of e-books), major publishers are simply printing books on demand. Authors are using this model and selling their creations directly to the public. This has caused the market to become considerably more unpredictable.

Hi Barb –

Your headline says it all. After watching Frank Romano’s video on WhatTheyThink.com yesterday “Book Incubators and Espresso Books, Distribution of Tomorrowland” I posted a comment that goes along with this thinking – there’s plenty of room for both traditional and ebooks – it just comes down to options.

Readers want choices. Some will choose to read on a Nook, others will continue to buy the latest New York Times best seller in hard copy and others still can’t wait to pick up a paperback from their favorite self publisher. Production of hard copy books are evolving, just as ebooks are. Book publishers can leverage digital printing to stay competitive by printing shorter initial runs with reprint options based on demand.

And now, the Espresso Book Machine, A Xerox Solution, is bringing a new immediate option for self publishers and readers alike – the ability to print a paperback book in minutes. Digital advancements are opening new opportunities for readers, and as we are seeing, the industry is quickly adapting to meet the needs of consumers.

What’s in demand for your book customers?
